Overview

Versatile pneumatic transfer

Air Operated Diaphragm Pumps (AODD / AODP) use compressed air instead of electricity, making them a safe, versatile choice for water, viscous fluids, corrosives, and abrasive slurries across Pakistani plants.

Two flexible diaphragms reciprocate to draw fluid in and push it out. The sealless design supports leak-conscious transfer of hazardous and shear-sensitive materials, and air drive makes them inherently suitable for explosive environments where electrical sparks are a risk.

Product description

Capability, accuracy, duty class, and how this product fits your process.

How a pneumatic diaphragm pump works

Compressed air enters the air motor and shifts pressure between chambers behind the diaphragms. As one diaphragm is pushed out, the opposite side creates vacuum, opens the suction ball valve, and fills the chamber. When the air valve shifts, that chamber discharges through the outlet ball valve.

This double-diaphragm action creates a steady pulsating flow that handles high solids and changing viscosities without the impeller limits of centrifugal pumps.

Key benefits for plant teams

AODD pumps can run dry without the seal damage common on mechanically sealed pumps. They self-prime for drum, tank, and sump emptying. With no electrical components at the pump, they suit hazardous and ATEX-style zones. Large clearances pass solids and thick slurries, while the gentle action protects shear-sensitive latex, food products, and polymers. Flow and pressure adjust by changing air supply pressure, without a VFD.

Industry applications

Chemical and petrochemical plants use PVDF and PTFE builds for acids, alkalis, solvents, and resins. Food and beverage facilities use sanitary stainless options for pastes, juices, and CIP. Paint and coatings lines move heavy viscosities and feed filter presses. Mining and ceramics transfer abrasive slips and sludge. Water treatment uses AODD for chemical transfer, lime slurry, and filter-press feeding.

Installation and maintenance

Use clean, dry air with a filter/regulator to protect the air valve. Bolted or clamped designs simplify diaphragm and ball inspection, especially on abrasive duties. Jams stocks repair kits so downtime stays short.

FAQ

Common questions

How much compressed air does an AODD pump consume?

Consumption depends on pump size, fluid viscosity, and required flow. Share your duty and we will estimate CFM so your compressor is correctly matched.

Can Air Operated Diaphragm Pumps be submerged?

Many models can be submerged if the liquid suits the exterior materials and the air exhaust is piped above liquid level.

What is the difference between an AODD pump and a centrifugal pump?

Centrifugal pumps suit high-flow, low-viscosity fluids. AODD pumps are positive displacement and excel with viscous fluids, abrasive slurries, and shear-sensitive media.

How do I reduce pulsation?

Install a pulsation dampener on the discharge. Jams can supply dampeners that smooth flow for filling or spraying duties.

What happens if the discharge line is blocked?

The pump stalls when internal pressure equals air supply pressure. It does not burn out, and it restarts when the line opens.

Do you stock spare parts?

Yes. Diaphragm repair kits, air valve kits, balls, and seats are kept to minimize downtime across Pakistan.
